July 29th – October 12th , with an  Opening Reception on  Thursday, July 29th, 6-8pm

DESIGNS RUSTIC:  In the long history of furniture design and its blending of natural wood, stones, and other elements,  artists have been able to exercise creative choices as to whether to make objects of art that are “clean”, simple, and  functional or rather to engage in highly decorative,  embellished flights of fancy and the imagination through the use of blending unusual combinations of materials and designs .   Brad Greenwood and Wayne Ignatuk  are innovative furniture artists who employ often traditional techniques but in their practices  have put them to work developing a new and expanded concept of what constitutes “rustic design.”

Brad Greenwood, a Californian, has earned the respect of his peers and the title “Master Furniture Maker”.  His  intricate relief carvings, hand tooled surfaces, and  choice of combinations of hard woods, have resulted in objects that have earned him the esteemed, Best Woodworking & Craftsmanship Award from Wyoming’s, Western Design Conference.  He creates distinctive furnishings that often contain other features such as dioramas, animatronics, games, and secret compartments.

Adirondacker Wayne Ignatuk has stated,, “If you spend 12 hours in a woodshop you’re bound to build something.”   Ignatuk has built furniture of such high aesthetic standards that his work is included in  The Adirondack Museum’s permanent collection.   His compositions, begun as a hobby, have evolved into complex designs that have been described as “organic arts and crafts.”

His work has been profiled on HGTV’s “The Good Life,” in the book, Adirondack Home, and in Adirondack Life and other publications.

WALL WORKS:  Drawing and painting artists Mary Reilly, Viviane Silvera, Jennifer Odem, Maro Michalakakos, and Leslie Lerner make realistic and in some cases, unrealistic, sites, scenes, and interpretations from their present and pasts.  Early Modernist print makers, Reginald Marsh, Don Freeman, Louis Lozowick, and Louis Schanker made works that are pictorial  interpretations of life during the era of the 1930’s and early 1940’s.  All well-known artists, their etchings, engravings and lithographs are in the collections of every major museum in the U.S.

511 Gallery has moved to a new and large location at  2418 Main
Street, in the High Peaks Resort.  Telephone, e-mail, and hours remain
the same.  For further information, Contact Janice Thomas, Gallery Associate.
